How do I tell if I have a smart meter
As I posted on the facebook page last night, I spent far more time trying to determine if I have a smart meter on my electric than I really should have. Its obviously a digitial meter because it has a digital readout and doesn't appear to have the spinning disk we all know and love from days of yore...

Is 14K tons one of Stuart's "Sweet Spots" in naval engineering? I thought the sweet spots were 11K and 20K or so. Wonder what has changed in the 20 or so years since he came up with those rough guesses. Is it possible that technology has improved in an area or a number of areas to allow re...

Ahh, I see. Unfortunately Fortunately, I don't have a twitter account, so I was unable to see any of the comments. Thanks for letting me know what happened. Belushi TD FTFY. That is a big tank. It also looks more like one of the above ground propane tanks instead of a gasoline storage tank. The lat...

Re: Why you’d want to stand well back from a burning gas station
I'd like to know what happened in the few seconds after the clip ends. It appears that what looks like either a 5k or 10K gallon tank is venting something, on fire, and headed for something both stationary and massive. While the amateur videographer appears to have something sorta solid (unsupported...

Congrats!
Your marriage has lasted only slightly less long than my life. I stand in awe of the two of you, sir.
Many happy returns of the day to both of you.

Why do I feel like Vulcan vs. Starship is sort of like a Stutz vs. Ford?

Re: Helene
Are we talking about the states slow walking aid, or are we talking about FEMA slow walking aid? What many people don't seem to understand is that FEMA is not supposed to even GET to a disaster until 2 to 3 days after its over. Even then, FEMA is supposed to wait until called in to help. When you co...

Re: Wolverine and Chiefs
Looks like there's a little problem with the numbers of planes. “Nail, Chevy Flight is four Foxtrot-Fours. Six Echoes with antiarmor Rockeyes, and two Juliets loaded for air-to-air,” Guru said. “Any Red air around?” Shouldn't the bolded part be eight? Or do I not understand what's going on? Belushi TD

Here's how I see it. Someone with virtually NO experience, fresh out of school, was handed this stuff to review as their first task by someone who was too swamped with stuff that actually NEEDED review and figured "Oh, the new guy can handle it. Good way for them to get their feet wet.". T...

I would think that a single carrier wouldn't be sufficient to provide top cover and a suitably large strike force at the same time, particularly in the North Sea. Ok, you're not near any WARPAC land, so you have some warning of approaching strikes, unlike WWII in the same area, but I would still thi...
