Ouch.
Down-side, helluva mess.
Lost the tall-boy's extensive storage, mostly flatware. My 'working flatware' currently occupies the top deck of a three-tier work-shop trolley (!!) double-parked between table and fridge/freezer. Plaster left like a bombing range. New c/h boiler required 'significant' rerouting of pipes, and partly blocks the lower half of former pipes' 'boxing-in'. There's also a 'Chonky Thing' newly attached at waist-height to one of the c/h pipes like a big remora. It's a filter, 'Full Service Access' required...
Up-side, electricians' repair to that essential cable provided a new, high-level dual outlet. Handy for a night-light, handy for a future feed to out-side socket. Perhaps even for the kitchen WAP I keep promising myself...
I'm re-building the deranged plaster to N~~NE of boiler one skim of filler at a time, adding thin layers atop base-strata of plaster-board / sheet-rock jigsaw pieces. See pic. When area levelled and smoothed, I can route that spliced cable through neat clip-lid conduit from beside the new socket to a notch in the boxing. Its batten then dog-legs around shoulder of boiler, comes down past the 'Chonky Thing'.
Latter needs a split cover for 'toolless access''.
Contriving such took several pairs of N/S 12mm CSK ring magnets, their central holes having 4mm clearance. The 'S' wood-screw into their counter-bored battens. The 'N' bolt through their hard-board halves with CSK machine screws to neat bow-handles, which usually take M4 pan-heads. There'll be a 'doubler' plate' glued to RHS half, with magnetic tape to cling to left...
When that's resolved, I must drill a low-level 42mm hole for the new P-trap and drain for side-shifted laundry machine. I've already updated the cold-feed location, taken out weeping stop-end from original boiler in passing. I also replaced the long-seized Winter shut-off for outside tap discovered behind 'un-documented port-hole' in back of tall-boy...
With those done, I can get and assemble a flat-pack 1000mm 'blind corner' kitchen unit, tuck RHS into old boiler's gap in place of my temporary table. Unit will have a 180º shelf carousel, swallow my 'working' flatware. Yay !!
I wanted a 'drawer-line' base, but they have fallen out of fashion. So, 'slab-line' or thrice the price...
Happens the laundry machine stands taller than the rest of kitchen's units. Before, it had its own spanning work-top, raised a palm-width above the old boiler, reaching across to side of that now-lost tall-boy...
Well, if I must again have a riser, its foot-print could match the new 'blind corner' unit. And, with a couple more inches height, accommodate a pre-made drawer box. That would swallow many of the 'occasional' but then essential utensils that had been in a busy carousel in the tall-boy. Too many are currently 'dependent' from S-hooks above cooker...
Another victim of losing the tall-boy was storage for plate spacers and covers that hopped between that and the two microwaves, especially my favourite, the neat one beside kettle and sink. They've been precariously balanced atop the sink's busy draining board, but I wanted better.
Could I give that microwave its own mini-riser, with some storage space beneath ?
Well, yes. Took some lateral thinking, a sheet of grease-proof paper to trace the rubber feet's footprint, and four 'oval' wardrobe rails' end-fittings to grab them just so. See other pic. Those corner legs are rated for a cabinet, couch or futon, so laughably stronger than required. Finishing strip for front is due next week...
So, yes, our Poltercats can no longer tip those drainer-poised spacers into sink, or send them cart-wheeling across room at Oh-Fook-Dark-Thirty...
