He pulled his stuff after some disagreements over the postwar USN ORBAT, Belushi, and nobody’s managed to get in touch with him about reposting Showboat At War for posterity’s sake…

If someone can get in touch with him, that would be good. Even if he no longer wishes to be involved, granting permission to repost his stuff would be greatly appreciated.
The difference between diplomacy and war is this: Diplomacy is the art of telling someone to go to hell so elegantly that they pack for the trip.
War is bringing hell down on that someone.

If he gives, does anybody have the Showboat stored on their PC.

Nope. I’ve got Shipbucket profiles and line art of the Showboat.

So i was wondering, searching true the CIA de-classified documents i came about this:

SOVIET NAVAL ACTIVITIES OUTSIDE HOME WATERS IN 1985
https://www.cia.gov/readingroom/docs/DOC_0000499548.pdf

Now, i know in Red Storm Rising before the outbreak of war the Americans notice that the Soviets where not as active with their navy as usual and even discovered from satellite photos that Soviet submarines where getting new batteries, now my question is in the Red Dawn verse before the war started the Soviet Navy conducted limit operations compared to regular operations in order to maintain, train and organize their ships for the upcoming battles that would come.

One thing I would expect is the establishment of an East Pacific Eskadra based in Mexico, with major civil engineering efforts to expand the waterfront getting underway even before Mexico City falls in '84.

If that happen, there where people sleeping in Washington, a East Pacific Eskadra would be 10 % of the Cuban Missile Crisis as it allowed the Soviets to patrol the East Coast with out a problem.

We'd already accepted a Soviet fleet base at Cienfuegos during the Nixon administration. A fleet base at Puerto Vallarta wouldn't be the end of the world. Just extremely f***ing worrisome.

Just remember, a large part of the foreign policy establishment was actively down playing the Soviet presence in the America's. They were afraid Reagan would draw the "wrong" conclusion that the were preparing to attack the US, and Reagan would hit them first.

So they would not react when reports come in that for a month there is no Soviet naval prescience across the globe.

They would say it was a sign of the Soviets trying to turn down the temperature.

The various intelligence agencies all had bits and pieces of the full picture, but because they didn’t talk to each other, the US was caught even more off-guard than it would have been if those agencies had just talked to each other…

Question, the CIA is barred from operating on US Soil, but does this also applies to territory controlled during the War by the Soviet Union.

I seem to recall that they got an exemption for the War, with the expectation that they would primarily be operating in occupied territory (and even when they weren’t, they were still better than RamDyne)…
