Standard regimental structure: three squadrons plus a command flight to make 40 aircraft per regiment.
The difference between diplomacy and war is this: Diplomacy is the art of telling someone to go to hell so elegantly that they pack for the trip.
War is bringing hell down on that someone.

Re: OOC Thread
Does this also include the regiment's reconnaissance squadron of 10 Tu-16RM (Badger-D) aircraft, if we use Kennedy vs. Badger as source material.Matt Wiser wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 4:05 am Standard regimental structure: three squadrons plus a command flight to make 40 aircraft per regiment.

The Recon Squadron was Independent. but was based with the bomber regiment for maintenance purposes.

Re: OOC Thread
You mean prologue, right? An epilogue would be after the end…

Re: OOC Thread
Did the Soviets during the war operate from Al Anad Air Base in Yemen and was it attacked by British and Americans during the war.

Re: OOC Thread
Haven't thought about that: the war in the peripheries hasn't gotten much attention. But they would try to monitor-if not stop-tanker convoys using the Red Sea shipping lanes.

Re: OOC Thread
Because I posted on my forum a photo of a Oman Fighter intercepting a Soviet ASW plane, and the only location that plane could operate from is the Soviet air base in Yemen.Matt Wiser wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 4:34 am Haven't thought about that: the war in the peripheries hasn't gotten much attention. Well . . . Re: OOC Thread
Would the Americans striking them consider war on Yemen and Ethiopia.
Re: OOC Thread
After SAC or a CVW pays a courtesy call, the locals tell the Soviets "your basing rights have just been revoked."
Re: OOC Thread
Diego Garcia would be a good place to operate from.
Also would Egypt tolerate the Red Sea being held hostage by the Soviets.
Re: OOC Thread
Diego Garcia is a British possession, might I remind you…

And in OTL used by the Americans during the Gulf War, so i can see it also being used here as well, to keep the Soviets operating out of Yemen and Ethiopia in check and to keep the Suez Canal open.
Re: OOC Thread
Probably as a stopping point for SAC bombers and tankers…

Re: OOC Thread
So could the British then operate from there, with help from SAC.

Re: OOC Thread
Depending on how involved Egypt wants to be, Cairo West Air Base might be a possibility. I know B-52s deployed there for Bright Star 1983.
