Why did I stop drinking?
Re: Elevation of the US fleet
Anyone planning on being on a maiden flight of that thing should probably take up drinking.

Kill the two RPVs, convert it from a seaplane to a Wing in Ground Effect and make it smaller. It might go from full bottle to two drinks if scale model works.

There is literally nothing about this that isn’t A-MAYZ-ING!
I can’t think of a single bad thing about it! What’s not to like?

More is always better.

My first thought when I saw this was, "The ducks coming in for a landing on our pond look just like that."
Re: Elevation of the US fleet
I see your Ekranoplan and raise you....
Jeff, I have ducks that use my pool and pond. They make so much more sense.

Re: Elevation of the US fleet
This was in the August 1982 Proceedings.
It's an unusual idea, but it's not physically impossible. Would it work tactically/operationally? I don't know.
But I suspect countering a significant number of these acting as a fleet would be a very challenging task.

Re: Elevation of the US fleet
Reading what you posted, this looks like a universe where the US can no longer maintain a carrier fleet and goes the route of Chipan of TBO fame with naval planes.
