Armoured Infantry Platoon organisation. Note, L110A2 LMG replaced L862 LSW in sections by 2005. One soldier in each section has an L123A1 UGL fitted to their rifle. The Warrior Sergeant was a dedicated NCO for commanding the IFVs when the Platoon Cmdr and Platoon Sergeant dismount. Graphics from here.

Question about the British Army home defense brigades.
You have the 146th & 161st Brigades listed. I've seen both once before on a different RL orbat as active in 1989. Do you have any indication if that was the case? Everything else I see says they were disbanded decades past.

I'm trying to remember if I took them from an @ orbat, or whether I had them reformed in the TLWverse. It was a while ago that I created the origional version of this orbat.

146th & 161st Brigades does not appear in my copy of NATO ORDER OF BATTLE 1989 V8.6. WIki says that 146th was reformed in 1983?

IRL, HQ 146 (North East) Bde and 161 (East Anglia) Bde were allocated serials in the Master ORBAT dated December 1991. If the Wall did not fall they would have been raised for MHD in those regions. There was an extensive TA ORBAT Review in the late 1980's. The short story of it is that at least six new TA Inf Bns would be raised for MHD along with additional Yeomanry regts. It was also intended for TA Inf to relieve Regular Bns in MHD roles so they could be used in the FEBA in Germany.

Question when did the Berlin Brigade go to four infantry battalions? Louis orbat has the Berlin Brigade have four battalions since one is leaving? Wasn't the Cold War orbat for the Berlin Brigade's fourth battalion comes from RAF Gatow?

The Berlin Bde had only three Inf Bns throughout its existence. I show four under my Berlin Bde entry because during July 1989 one Bn was Arms Plotting in and one was going out. So to be pedantic I showed both.
I imagine that in our story, because of rising tensions, they may have kept the outgoing Bn there during a period of tension.
Andrew Long has been writing an excellent series of Berlin books for Helion’s Europe@War series. The third volume coming out will focus on the U.S. Garrison, the next will be on the British. Kew has a boatload of Berlin documents that I believe Andrew has gotten. The one I have from 1989 indicates that the British garrison was VERY well prepared to exact a heavy toll on an incursion. Details were down to individual sections on street corners, fields of fire and fall back positions for MILAN and WOMBAT along with using the sewer system to travel undetected between positions.

That's why there's the addtional battalion. It was part of the reinforcements sent to Berlin during the TTW.

Sir Mike Jackson came up with the plan to use the sewers when he was in Berlin.

One wonders why the roomy, excellent, close-meshed and well maintained sewer system of (West) Berlin wasn‘t included in war planning from 9th May 1945…

Nobody thought of it? Perhaps until Jackson thought of it maybe nobody expected the Berlin Garrisons to last more than a few days, so what was the point? Especially since there were plan to put at least two nuclear warheads on East Berlin! Funny to think that the Soviets thought that East Berlin would be safe because of the Allied Garrisons in West Berlin. :D

Will there be a Colonel Fremantle with one of the Coldstream Guards units?

(Had to toss in a Gettysburg reference)

are you speaking about the IRL 5th Abn Bde or TLW?
IRL, 5th Abn Bde was tasked as OOA and UKLF Strategic Reserve. For OOA it included two Para Bns and the Church Crookham Gurkha Bn. For MHD it took the Bn at Canterbury under command. For both roles they also had two CVR (T) Sqns of the Household Cavalry Regt that was based at Windsor (the third CVR (W) Sqn was part of Operation Candid, Royal Family Protection)

Basically what Louie said. In TLW the orbat for 5 ABN BDE is the same as in @. I have found a source that states it would have had two PARA battalions and two airlanding battalions, one of which would have been Gurkha. Same source suggests it would only have had a single recce squadron. Which does make some sense, as AFAIK the HCR based at Windsor also had to provide a CVR(T) squadron to 3 CDO BDE.

Just as an aside, the deployment of the Blue and Royals in TLW (who were the Windsor based regiment) on TtW would have been as follows:

Regimental H.Q and C Squadron: BATUS, serving as OPFOR, later deployed to Kuwait.
A Squadron - attached to 3 Commando Brigade
B Squadron - attached to 5 Airborne Brigade
D Squadron - Wellington Barracks, London, part of Royal Duties Force.

The TA PARA battalions were part of the Parachute Regiment Group.
