And there IS a video that does honestly appear to be for real, taken by a sailor showing some heads and showers on LINCOLN that look to be - in all honesty - kinda rough.

Now.

I have never spent minute ONE aboard a CVN except as a guest. I do know from my friends here, FB, and the Friends of Lex, that even on a peacetime cruise it is a brutal, grueling, exhausting experience that starts with sleep deprivation and goes downhill from there. Sleep, hell, REST of any kind is priceless. But couldn't some of the junior petty officers (or the seniors, for that matter) organize a detail and spend even just a few minutes trying to scrub the worst of it out?

On the Independence (CV-62) we could light our drinking water.

And no, i am not kidding or exaggerating in the least.

Yes, a long cruise can be rough especially at the end of a looooonnnnngggg supply chain.

Several of us here have been there, done that, didn’t get the T-shirt (back ordered)

Yes, they’ve had an usually long time without a break and a port call. Yes, it’s rough and hard on the crews of ALL of the ships and squadrons deployed.

As I noted elsewhere here, the primary supply base and liberty port is in range of the opposition and got the Hell shot out of it. Can’t go there!

Engineering failures like that which take FOUR DAYS to deal with and leave a warship helpless are utterly unacceptable.

Context matters. It was under tow for 4 days getting it to Subic Bay. She was supported by the USS Robert Smalls for meals while under tow by contracted tugs. Arrived at Subic on the 28th and power was restored in 2 days.

I guess they could have abandoned and torpedoed her.
