Guy builds a hobby level "manpad" run by consumer electronics. I haven't dug into it but it comes on the heels of the diy radar.

While neither is hardened, milspec hardware, it's sparking debate on costs, research, and how many people will get in trouble for unlicensed radars.

Wow. Visual tracking is a good idea, it is passive and cheap. But of course it doesn't work at night.
