Trying to remember a naval fiction we once had on the old old board

Post by Craiglxviii »

I can’t remember the titles. But it was set in this universe/ dimension with the only difference being another island- on which lived a very tough race of people.

Who built bloody big battleships, and kept them
In service into the 90s…

Does this ring any bells?

A very nice tale that one, you might find it here together with all its permutations.

Weirdly enough I've been world building a large island off Land's End for the past week and I knew there was an alt-fic of one but couldn't remember the name.

Thank you!

IIRC, they also had railway guns...
If you cannot see the wood for the trees, deploy LIDAR.

Just seeing this.

Based on the "bloody big battleships" kept into the 1990s, you aren't thinking of Tarrantry. You're thinking of Elysia / Gryphon.
IIRC, the country was on a big island which took the place of Cuba and much of the Caribbean.

Now remind me, was there either some British or British colonial heritage to that island? Because I think you’re right and I don’t think it was Tarrantry- not that I can find any of that on Warships1- but Elysia rings a bell.

You remember correctly. I believe most of the content has been lost to various board crashes/hacks, but I was able to find two posts laying out the basic history.
