Paris has Fallen

Post by Micael »

A TV series installment in the ”…has fallen” franchise, this one is set in France. Synopsis:
Protection agent Vincent Taleb and MI6 agent Zara Taylor manage to stop a terrorist attack targeting French Defense Minister Philippe Bardin during a reception at the British Embassy in Paris. But the mastermind of this attack, Jacob Pierce, a former captain of the Foreign Legion, far from being thwarted, launches a series of attacks targeting the highest echelons of the state and industry of the Republic. The French police and Homeland Security then recruit Vincent and Zara to stop Pierce, but the latter remains one step ahead of them and puts Paris under siege.
It’s a fairly gritty and grounded action-thriller series, moreso than the Hollywood movies in the franchise. I suspect that this is largely a result of using Briton Howard Overman as the head writer, who has other gritty stuff on his CV such as Hotel Babylon.

Since the show is set in France a majority of the dialogue is in French, with subtitles, so beware of that. I think that it’s a worthwhile watch, enough tension and action to keep it moving, and the writing, acting, and cinematography all hold up pretty well. With the caveat that I haven’t finished the season yet.
