If permission granted, consult your doctor to see if you can reach the necessary fitness in reasonable time.

The Fair Melissa and have have actually just concluded a brief, quiet discussion on the subject. The decision is that if I get a letter in the mail telling me there's nothing voluntary about it and I'm to present myself posthaste, then I'm going. If not, then she would rather I didn't volunteer.
Healthwise, I'm not sure they'd even let me back in the door. My diabetes and my back issues would probably be disqualifiers all the way around. Ammo is a very physical field, and even if you have a primary desk job, you also have a secondary tasking that involves building warheads to drop on foreheads. The other issue - and one I am loathe to bring up here lest my friends skewer me unmercifully about it - is that I'm going to be 64 years old next week, which means, for example, I was on active duty when there were still F-105s in the inventory.

Re: ...With God As My Witness....
Tangential, several years after I took early retirement at a down-sizing pf our small corner of Big Pharma, a former colleague contacted me and asked me to come back, part or full-time.
I indicated my wife's shaky health, a major driver for my departure, had declined further than expected, so my options / hours were very limited...
Also, what was the admin / paper-chase like now ??
After a ghastly, ghastly silence, my former colleague made a sorta-whimpering noise, apologised for troubling me and rang off...
I later heard it would have taken six months or more to get me sufficiently re-trained in just the documentation procedures to be cost-effective...
Run Away ! Run Away !!

I turn 67 next month, the 100, 105 and 106 were still in use... the duces were drones, they've retired my Rhinos and are nearly finished with my 15s even though they do gave new builds.Poohbah wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 2:11 amI turn 59 in July, and I was on active duty when there were still F-105s in the inventory!MikeKozlowski wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 11:33 pmJohn,Johnnie Lyle wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 10:04 pm

Do it, just so you can be the crusty old bastard in the corner who never allows the young lads 1/32” of slack in anything.MikeKozlowski wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 11:33 pmJohn,Johnnie Lyle wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 10:04 pmConsult your wife to see if she will permit it.MikeKozlowski wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 9:59 pm ...I have no idea what to do next:

...Well, USAF has announced that the upper limit is 58.
I can imagine that conversation:
GENERAL 1: "Strictly speaking, we could go up to 67."
GENERAL 2: "Nope."
G1: "Why not?"
G2: "Because then Kozlowski and Dedmon could come back."
G1: "............."
G2: "............."
G1: "58 it is, then."

You know G1 laughed through reviewing all of the paperwork about The Incident with you, Bob and G2 when he was a lowly captain.MikeKozlowski wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 1:10 am ...Well, USAF has announced that the upper limit is 58.

You have NO idea...the fact that I'm entertaining walking away at 16.5 years instead of staying for 20 says a lot doesn't it?

Getting a lot of post-Vietnam vibes (or at least what I assume they are since I am too young to have been there) across a lot of fields, especially my own.
We may have survived but we didn’t win the war.
