BONUS 155mm shell

It’s been up on the board on the past, but for those aware it’s an anti-armor 155mm artillery shell that ejects two target acquiring submunitions.

The reason I mention it is that I saw that someone posted a few pics of the effects of a BONUS submunition. And noted that it has a higher maximum penetrating capacity than is shown in them.







Big fascinating how a fairly small thing can have that punch. Difficult to counter with armor in the top attack sector as well.

Well that viking helmet is all the rage you know.

It’s the same thing with the BONUS EFP, also tantalum. Must have some advantages then.

[Edit] BONUS also uses funky wings to achieve the rotation of the submunitions, so it is less wind sensitive than SADARM and SMART with their parachutes.

Tantalum is agreeably dense and has some pyrophoric atteibutes, if I am not mistaken.
Edit: It is also non-toxic and bio-inert, and often used in implants, prostheses etc.

Hmm, yeah that whole non-toxic aspect has been important here for a while. Might have been a factor here.
