More Bunkers
More Bunkers
The day before yesterday I had an unscheduled stay in Hamm(W). Actually not far from home and and on the way to work. Looking out the window I saw want looked like a miniature Flak Tower, actually three of them. The next day I took some time to take pictures.
It's bloody strange. One is just across the yard of a school I went to. The other is right next to where my employer did vocational training. And there used to be a fast food joint in front of it where I got (too much) pizza.
Still completely forgot about them.

Well I don't think it can be any kind of AA structure, as it's brick vice reinforced concrete. A warehouse of some type? Or some kind of establishment that doesn't want windows to prevent folks seeing in or out. Leaves alot of room there. Have you tried putting the address into Google and seeing what comes up?

If there are cooling towers around, a server farm is possible.

Found one of them on Google Maps, in the Widumstrasse triangle. It is marked as Luftschutzbunker nbr 6. Says it's a historical landmark.

These are air raid shelters. Here's some pictures of the inside.Luddite wrote: ↑Tue Nov 22, 2022 3:36 am Well I don't think it can be any kind of AA structure, as it's brick vice reinforced concrete. PS: Why do you think they are made of brick? That's concrete.

Re: More Bunkers
That's "Bomb shelter" isn't Herr Becker? I thought those things were either underground or at least low lying and covered with earth. Guess I was wrong?shermpotter wrote: ↑Wed Nov 23, 2022 12:04 am Found one of them on Google Maps, in the Widumstrasse triangle. It is marked as Luftschutzbunker nbr 6. The USA is back and you aint seen nothin yet
Re: More Bunkers
Some are but I keep seeing a lot that aren't. I guess it's easier to build if the structure isn't undergrund. Portection wise the bunkers in Hamm have reinforced concerete walls 2 meters thick. Considering the default ordnance dropped was a mix of 500 lb HE bombs and incendiaries you are safe inside.
BTW, here are the pictures of the Flaktum I took and posted on the FB page. The last aren't mine.
