...I just love the fact that a weapon made specifically for that duty has the word SILENCE embossed on it.

The fact Sig made special weapons for the duty is impressive

Only in America!
IMVHO, the M14s the Sentinels carry won't be loaded, which is not to say they don't carry ammunition for them. There is always a chance of an ND from a loaded weapon, even if it remote. There's zero chance if they're not loaded. I'm pretty sure our ceremonial guards don't keep their L85s loaded either. In the unlikely event there is a need to use lethal force the Sentinels have bayonets on their M14s. In the UK many years ago a Guardsman used his fixed bayonet to fend someone off from the late Queen's carriage until the man was detained.
I'd also say using 7.62mm, or 5.56mm rounds in a location likely to be filled with bystanders is not optimal. No worries about over-penetration with cold steel!

Give a company money to make something for you and they'll make it.jemhouston wrote: ↑Fri Oct 30, 2026 12:53 pm The fact Sig made special weapons for the duty is impressive

Beretta made M9 for the Tomb Guards also. Which I didn't know until I just did some research on it.
