One of several designs to satisfy the need for more air-capable escorts: a Flight Deck Spruance, proposed by Bath Iron Works in Maine. The need for more AEGIS cruisers was felt to be a higher priority.

What could it carry, a small harrier with ASW mix

It would be a very expensive way to get a small Harrier capability.
