For their first date, they went to a pub in his father’s Rover Coupe and the gear-shifter came out. Mansell put it back in and drove home, thinking he had got away with it, only to discover later that he had put it back in the wrong way around. His father set off for work the following morning, stuck the car in what should have been first gear and reversed through the garage door. Mansell married Roseanne in 1975.

For Mansell that is quite an interesting story. I heard him speak at a motor show in Birmingham in the ‘90s. To be charitable, it wasn’t the most riveting of stuff.
