A mini-documentary on an exploding water park

Post by Micael »

In 2024 the under construction Oceana indoor water park in Gothenburg, Sweden was nearing completion when it suddenly caught fire and subsequently exploded in a very dramatic fashion, resulting in one fatality. This is a 16 minute long mini-documentary that does a pretty good job of explaining what happened and why. Dramatic footage and explanations from the accident investigation report included:

Apart from the mistakes made which led to the fire, I think the incident itself is also a good showcase for how fires in ”unusual” complicated structures can present rapid and dramatic fire behaviors not necessarily expected by firefighters.

Yeah, whenever there’s any ”hot work” being done by workers in a building there’s a dramatically higher chance of a fire breaking out than usual. A great pity that people keep being stupid with regards to such work, with substantial negative consequences.

Ahem. If the work makes sparky-sparkies, make sure someone keeps an eye out for smoky-smokies...
