Suggestions & Requests
Re: Suggestions & Requests
Both? When I quote an article, in whole or in part, I will usually post a link so folks can verify or read the rest.

Re: Suggestions & Requests
I like having a link and the article, if it's less than about 1000 to 2000 words. If it's really long, quote the important sections.
I would also really like some personal discussion when quoting an article, especially if it's the first post in a new topic. Why do you think that it's important? What relevance does it have to current events, or to other stuff being talked about on the board? What is your opinion of the article, or of the reliability of the author and conclusions? Is there a reason for posting it, or is it to stir up crap.
I had that discussion several times with Eric and his article collections.

There's also the matter of copyright to consider. It is NOT fair use to simply paste the entire text of an article without comment. It's competing with the original article's location, it's not transformative and therefore it automatically fails two of the four fair use tests and fails what is in many ways the most important one: transformative or not.

Re: Suggestions & Requests
Can we get a 'dark mode' option for the board? there doesn't seem to be anything similar in the display options.
i usually use an extension called dark reader to apply the effect universally on websites, but it doesn't seem to play well here (tends to not display icons and borders), it will fix itself if i flick the extension off and then on again, or simply refresh the page a few times, but it will go back to being broken when i load a new page.
i currently using a 50' tv as a monitor and white web pages tend to flashbang the whole living room at night.

Could we get a second account for Mods?
One that they use that for official Mod work and Mod work only, while interacting as users with their ordinary user account.
That way, one could easily distinguish between user opinion that can be ignored or even blocked and "official" Mod decisions, that can't be.

Re: Suggestions & Requests
I always keep my mod posts separate from comment posts and colour the former red, so that they stand out. A separate mod account may not be practical, as it would probably mean giving login details to more than one person for the same account.

Re: Suggestions & Requests
That is how i speak, on my forum as well, use a color that only the mods can use and it has more efecht.Bernard Woolley wrote: ↑Tue Feb 10, 2026 3:50 pm I always keep my mod posts separate from comment posts and colour the former red, so that they stand out. i think the point is to establish a second Mod account for each moderator. That way, it's clear when they're speaking in the Mod voice, and when they're not.Bernard Woolley wrote: ↑Tue Feb 10, 2026 3:50 pm I always keep my mod posts separate from comment posts and colour the former red, so that they stand out. Re: Suggestions & Requests
Yes; no. I’m happy for the Mods to post in red when they mean Mod-business but I don’t want to have separate accounts for Mod & non-Mod posting. I already operate an Admin account and that’s a pain in the arrse.
Re: Suggestions & Requests
Yes, Mods do that when modding but with separate accounts I would not have to make an effort to ignore unwanted user replies by a user who is also a Mod.Bernard Woolley wrote: ↑Tue Feb 10, 2026 3:50 pm I always keep my mod posts separate from comment posts and colour the former red, so that they stand out. Re: Suggestions & Requests
could just have each admin/mod have 2 accts.
1) username
2) and username-mod
keep your pw the same or whatever. it standardises easily.
permissions for 1 set like every other member (incl can be ignored etc)
permissions for 2 set for mod/admin (cannot be ignored)
mod just logs into 2 (i'd imagine relatively rarely) to do any mod work

Doesn’t work that way. It’s clunky and a real pain in the ass.Sukhoiman wrote: ↑Tue Feb 10, 2026 9:09 pm could just have each admin/mod have 2 accts.

Re: Suggestions & Requests
I certainly don't relish the idea of two different log ins. I've had to reset some passwords recently and the last thing I need is yet another!

Re: Suggestions & Requests
My advice, use the same account, be present as a member but also be present as a mod, having two accounts is not needed as we all know who the mods are.

Also if you're speaking a mod, use red font.
