Forecast 'Bomb Cyclone'...

Post by Nik_SpeakerToCats »

The forecast 'Bomb Cyclone' seems to have skirted NYNY region, headed off to the North-East...

Reports seem confused, mostly describing 'sorta-Canadian' conditions across Florida, the Carolinas etc etc..

My contact in NJ indicates it passed some-what to his locale's East: Nasty, but seen much worse...

How are other US areas managing ??

We got about 4" of snow (or as we would have called that in Cleveland, 'Tuesday') which was mostly gone by this afternoon. But still a lot of moisture on the ground and the low tonight is going to be 11.

Yeah, the storm underwent bombogenesis while it was headed out to sea. The current dome of cold air that's been affecting the NY/NJ area for the last week and a half kept it from snowing on us yesterday. We've not been above freezing by me since.... the 20th? maybe?

Today through Wednesday they're talking about getting up to 32, 35 and 37, and then back to highs in the upper teens and lower 20's again. We've not had a winter like this in a decade! Loving it.

I live in ENC, right where it hit the hardest. 16" of snow here at my house, officially 13" for the area. Was buried in place til family came up with a backhoe with a dozer plate to clear the road I'm on.

The side effect of all this really cold stuff in the US (besides frozen iguanas falling out of trees in Florida) is that the jet stream is being markedly enhanced across the Atlantic. The UK is thus getting clobbered by storm after storm after storm. It's a somewhat similar pattern to 2014, although it's not as bad as that winter. Rain and wind aplenty.

Yeah, that was the last time we had a good winter. I remember following a drill rig while we were drilling 350 foot deep monitoring wells. When we got to the rig at 7 AM, it was -10 or so. Warmed up to about 5 or so during the day and dropped again at night.

Winter of 2014/2015.
