I suppose it could be worse.... At least the 22 year old wasn't trying to have sex with the 13 year old.

Still, I fully endorse both the previous comments.

Are we sure of that? Any more, going to worse case seems the safest strategy.

The mind boggles...

I'm reminded that, some years back, a Tokyo hoodlum assaulted and tried to rape a 'cute school-girl'.
Bad move.

....As I have so often asked after stunts like this:

"What scares you more: the fact that they did it, or the fact that they thought they could get away with it?"

(First asked, by the by, when a deranged USAF CMSgt ordered a bunch of recruiters to withdraw their separation packages.)

(No, really.)

...Okay -

In spring 93 the drawdowns were starting in full force, and USAF said it didn't matter where you were or what you were doing, you were eligible. That included the recruiting force, and a GREAT many people took the opportunity to get while the getting was good.

The trouble was this: our squadron was the largest in USAFRS, and when Big Air Force needed bodies, they went after us, AFRS called all the Recruiting Chiefs and basically said, "Nobody's getting out....are they????" The Chiefs - 'career recruiters; every one of them and living in mortal terror of having to go back to the Real Air Force, promised nobody would leave.

We lost something like 20% of ours.

The Chief was the textbook definition of the word asshole, and I'd already banged heads with him a couple times, but I wasn't involved here; I had my orders for Shaw and I was just keeping my head down. And he wasn't going to let us ruin his party. So one afternoon he drags all the guys with separation packages to squadron HQ at Pittsburgh IAP, and lines 'em up in a hangar. Walks in with FULL dress blues carrying everybody's package and tells 'em to line up. Hands everybody their packages, then goes to the front and says, "I am Chief Master Sergeant (I Can't Remember), Recruiting Superintendent of the 4405th AFRecS. I am giving each and every one of you a direct order: You are to withdraw your separation packages and return to your duty stations."

I was told that about half of them said "Feck YOU, fella", or summat similar, and walked out. The rest laughed at him and then walked out. All of them headed for the Squadron to have a long chat with the Old Man, a helo driver getting some command time in who loved his recruiters, but HATED his Flight Supers and especially his Recruiting Superintendent. They all gave the Old Man an earful, to which he gave a heartfelt apology, and then tore the Chief a new one, with the promise that he would indeed be keeping an eye on him.

And sure enough, at Christmas time that year, the Chief got his. Short version, he tried to order somebody to falsify some paperwork so we'd make a racial quota, and the recruiter didn't even bother with the squadron, he went straight to the IG....who investigated and discovered that it wasn't the first time. He in turn went to the Commander USAF Recruiting Service....MGen Billy McCoy, who I'd known at Langley. Billy may not have been the smartest Eagle Driver to ever live, but he was a decent man. And on Christmas Eve 93, he called the squadron and made it very clear that the Chief was done, and his orders were in the pipeline.

The son of a bitch didn't wait around for 'em, he put in his paperwork the first day back from Christmas break.

Mike,

That wasn't a Chief, that was an E-9. Too many still floating around 30 years later...
