Several movies coming up
Several movies coming up
1. Running Man (this time a LOT closer to the short story/novella by Stephen King than the Ahnuld vehicle out of centuries past)
2. The Long Walk (also Stephen King/Richard Bachman)
3. A House of Dynamite (deals with a nuclear attack on the USA, directed by Kathryn Bigelow)
Can't wait for either of those three.

1. Arnie's version was over the top, cheesy, and loads of fun.
2. Looking forward to it but I guess there are a few unknown changes in that King gave his blessing to.
3. Interesting but is based on 'Nuclear War: A Scenario' by Annie Jacobsen so I might give it a pass.

Westray: That this is some sort of coincidence. Because they don't really believe in coincidences. They've heard of them. They've just never seen one.

Re: Several movies coming up
The book presents a minute-by-minute account of a hypothetical first strike by North Korea against the United States, showing how the conflict escalates to global thermonuclear war within 72 minutes,
I think the Seer would agree (one flies they all fly)
leading to nuclear winter and 5 billion deaths.
I think the Seer would disagree, he thought nuclear winter is an overblown hypothesis (can't remember why).

Because nuclear winter was demonstrated to be a totally false hypothesis, and would be much more like a “nuclear autumn”.warshipadmin wrote: ↑Sat Sep 13, 2025 1:28 am The book presents a minute-by-minute account of a hypothetical first strike by North Korea against the United States, showing how the conflict escalates to global thermonuclear war within 72 minutes,

However the story itself seems to be a continual series of screwups. I shan't be reading it.
Re: Several movies coming up
I read Jacobsen's book and I agree that it was basically a Murphy's Law gangbang for maximum shock effect, but Kathryn Bigelow has proven more than once that she is very good at depicting military-themed stuff.warshipadmin wrote: ↑Sat Sep 13, 2025 10:46 pm However the story itself seems to be a continual series of screwups. Isn’t a continuous series of screwups rather plausible for a lot of recent military/government functioning?Jotun wrote: ↑Thu Oct 09, 2025 6:24 pmI read Jacobsen's book and I agree that it was basically a Murphy's Law gangbang for maximum shock effect, but Kathryn Bigelow has proven more than once that she is very good at depicting military-themed stuff.warshipadmin wrote: ↑Sat Sep 13, 2025 10:46 pm However the story itself seems to be a continual series of screwups. Re: Several movies coming up
'A House of Dynamite' is available on Netflix and a quick look at the IMDB comments show its a love it or hate it with little in-between. I think a reason why is how its structures. It essentially goes from detection to attempted intercept to POTUS trying to figure a response to..... Well then it resets to zero to show a different perspective and then it resets again to show another perspective. The ending? There really isn't a conclusion. Remember how in 'Fail Safe' you never saw the bomb initiate over New York and what happens after? Same thing.
My apologies for the previous post as this movie is NOT based on 'Nuclear War: A Scenario' by Annie Jacobson. It is being developed as a movie by 'Dune' director Denis Villeneuve.

Oddly that's the second reference to HoD I've seen today. I'll give it a poke.

Not overblown, but null. Wouldn’t happen. Nuclear Autumn was his description. The debunking of it is in the Essays section.warshipadmin wrote: ↑Sat Sep 13, 2025 1:28 am The book presents a minute-by-minute account of a hypothetical first strike by North Korea against the United States, showing how the conflict escalates to global thermonuclear war within 72 minutes,

Is 2. The Long Walk based on the Slawomir Rawicz book?Jotun wrote: ↑Fri Sep 12, 2025 10:57 am 1. Running Man (this time a LOT closer to the short story/novella by Stephen King than the Ahnuld vehicle out of centuries past)
