Postal service goes wrong...,

Post by Nik_SpeakerToCats »

USPS is infamous for battling through disaster and mayhem, but getting the easy stuff hilariously wrong.
UK PO / Royal Mail, even 'Tracked 48', also has its moments of ultimate face-palm...

Neighbour knocks on my door. Had taken in a fuzzy-labelled parcel, with correct house number and *similarity* in street name, but several miles offset and very not our 'post code'.

Correct recipient will be seriously puzzled by pic of neighbour's door.

Neighbour cannot get though on phone to post office, asked for my help.

My vision was not up to reading the reference number on label, but I have a 1D/2D bar-code reader.

UK PO wwweb enquiry system is, to put it politely, hopeless. There's no 'Help, I've received a misaddressed parcel !!' No, situation categorised as, 'Other, other, other, other, other...'.

But, now on record that I have parcel, am taking it to local Post Office on Wednesday at earliest, and here's the QR code again...

Ours have similar problems.

FedEx in particular regularly drops my stuff at various locations. Their photos of “proof of delivery” are generally “proof of mis-delivery”

I won’t use FedEx anymore and tell others not to

Amazon's 'sent from' partner never did locate my two priority-ordered tubes of 'exterior silicone grout' needed to plumb-in the new washing-machine drain.

As I said, there was no such wall or down-spout or window near me.
Half-a-century difference in bricks: Local vs Machine...

But... But, pic is PROOF was correctly delivered !!!

No. That nice pic is proof it was mis-delivered...

I did try to find a geo-tag in the pic's meta-data, drew blank...

Currently waiting for big Amazon and DPD deliveries. Former keeps slip-sliding away from 'afternoon slot' towards dusk. Other yet refuses to give ETA beyond 'TODAY'...

The postal service here in Sweden has been on a steep downhill slope since the 90’s, essentially ever since being transformed from a government agency into a corporation and then merged with its Danish counterpart into the current abomination known as Postnord. I have little to no good to say about it.

Got an e-mail yesterday saying that the newest book I bought from Amazon(Friedman's British Aircraft Carriers) had a delivery failure because of 'incorrect address'.

B***h, I've been using this address(a Miami-based package-forwarding service) for more than a year now, and it's the first time I get this error. It probably also is the first time someone sent a book to this address by USPS.

Thinking seriously of asking for a refund and buying the book later.

My experience with USPS has been generally good, aside from my ability to crash their systems with my presence and a box of donuts that they took on a two week tour of Seattle (the donuts were fine).

I like the daily email summary of incoming mail and packages, and individual emails about tracking packages.

Generally, the biggest problems are the interface with European postal or private shipping companies. Usually it just results in having to go to the main post office to pick up the package, but I had a weird situation where a package from the uK sent via untracked Royal Mail got lost. After roughly a month I got in contact with the shipper, they sent me a replacement package via tracked Royal Mail, only for the original package to show up again three months later.

Back in 2021, I sent a christmas card to my cousin. I live in Jersey, she lives in Oregon. So, transcontinental.

It wa sent, according to the postmark, on December 19, 2021. I received it back as "undeliverable" on February 2, 2023.

It took tehm 14 months to decide that the christmas card, which had been sent to the SAME address as the previous 4 or 5 christmases, was not a deliverable address.

Such crap.

i'm sure that its partially due to seasonal workers, but the cold hard truth is that, if you're a company employing seasonal workers, you need to ensure they do the F-ing job right.
