Disclosure: When my father was young, working in dock-front cattle-food mill, a faulty machine spat a metal shard into an eye,. This was successfully retrieved by city's eye-hospital...

Note this was *same* mill that had a big, wharf-side molasses tank burst one winter night, flood quay with 'Hot Brown Gunge'. It carried away, killed a 'Coppy Watchman' who was unable to flee his engulfed hut. The flood promptly set solid in the winter chill. The dock-side had to be cleared of 'instant toffee' by several ships deploying steam hoses, work-gangs peeling, rolling up 'runners' and dumping it into the dock, to be flushed by subsequent tides...
