My grandson Malachi just finished his freshman year of college, has been invited to apply to West Point. He has also been approached by the Naval Academy. He's a track star, currently holds the Arizona high school high jump record.

Congrats, neat to be able to choose between West Point and the Naval Academy. But the enlisted route is quite the thing as well.

Indeed. I was enlisted, Navy (aircraft hydraulics mech, served on the carrier Midway for 2 years) then Army National Guard (26trh Infantry). 12 years total
