Sulk...

Post by Nik_SpeakerToCats »

Spring is in the air, the cats are again patrolling beyond garden, the pollen count has rocketed like a Star-link launch.
My usual winter bronchitis has switched to 'hay-fever', my eyes and sinuses are streaming, my throat is cruelly sore.
Have to warily balance benefit of anti-histamines versus their wits-clouding zonk...
D'uh...

On a lighter note, had a 'Heads Up' from AliExpress about new range of thumb drives.

They've previously offered me 1 TB, 1.5 TB, even 2 TB at absurdly low prices. Some even 'Famously Branded'...
Now, 3 TB, even cheaper !!

But Three (3) TB ?? WTF ??
That's notionally equal to my CAD-Tower's C: + E: + F: 'spinners', and 3/4 of my 'slide-out' G:..

Now, even if 3 Tera-Bit rather than Tera-Byte, these thumb-drives' advertised speed and capacity are clearly a nonsense.

The drives' 'smarts' are surely faking it, even more blatantly than certain well-known politicians...

Question is 'How Bad' are these mini-monsters ??

And, given some such carry 'famous branding', what budget software would reveal full extent of their cruel deceit ??

Honestly I'm not sure I'd buy anything Internet connected or that goes into my computer from Aliexpress. I limit my purchases there to things like additional cupholders/sunshades/"dumb" accessories for my car, toys for my son, etc...

I’ve seen some people dissect the reality behind these, they’re essentially drives with much smaller capacity that report their storage capacity as much greater if you plug them into a computer. But in reality that extra space doesn’t exist of course.

Graphics cards for gaming that you can buy from weird Chinese sites are mostly the same, reports as the newest and hottest Geforce variant but in reality it’s physically some older, less powerful, card.

Actually those capacities are correct. The supposed missing space is taken up by the embedded hacking software to strip your hard drives and the entire network and feed it to the PLA data theft unit in Beijing during the next download window.

(Only partly sarcasm)

I gave up on anti histamines, instead I use a nose spray (Nasanex) once a day, and eye drops (Naphcon A) as necessary. This seems to get rid of the major effects without doping me up. However, I don't get it very badly just sneezing fits and red eyes, not my chest. When I was a teenager I had a series of injections which may or may not have helped with British trees, but certainly had no effect on Victoria's gum trees and yellow flowers.
