I’ve used his “I'm sorry. I'm going to have to ask you to grow up a little bit sooner than you expected” quite a bit the last few years. Spock’s “Best we can do in two hours” as well.

Also from TWOK:

Nope, no kids. Only a seven year old niece and a three year old nephew. He’s smart, he wants to stay little forever.

I use it with students and new to the field employees, especially when they’re being asked to do new, unexpected tasks. Especially at the start of the COVID pandemic, when we knew a lot less and were building the plane as we flew it a lot more.

Best John Corey quotes

Post by OSCSSW »

These are selected by Nelson DeMille and I agree with him; their great. How many times have I told you folks Nelson and I were at Hue back in '68 at the same time during Tet? Never actually met but I'm sure we heard each other's voices on the tactical Net; mine was rather high pitched for some reason.

Enjoy

“There are seven major theories. You want to hear about the underwater methane gas bubble theory?” I had this disturbing image of whales in an underwater locker room lighting farts. I said, “Maybe later.”

“To Parker’s right, near Koenig, was Captain Henry Wydrzynski, Deputy Chief of Detectives with the Port Authority police. I’d met this guy a few times when I was an NYPD detective, and he seemed like an okay guy, except for his name, which looked like the third line of an eye chart. I mean, somebody should buy this guy a vowel.”

“The Irish are beautiful bullshitters. I mean, you know they’re lying, they know you know they’re lying, but they do it with so much charm, conviction, and energy that everyone feels kind of good about it.” That fits my very Irish shipmate OSC USN (Ret.) to a T. What pisses me off is that it works so well on women!

So. Again we are defeated. The farmers have won. Not us.

I saw Seven Samurai while in Yokuska, in the original Japanese, along with a delightful young lady that was teaching me Japanese in the most efficient manner, at night in bed.   Even after a few months of her excellent instruction I had to watch it about a half dozen times at the local movie houses (pre VCR Days) to get the full impact. The Nipponese speak very fast. It was hard for me to follow the more emotional scenes with my limited, but diligent study of the language.

IMO, FWIW, Toshirô Mifune as Kikuchiyo The Bandid Chief was my favorite character. Same with the great Eli Wallach the El Jeffe Pistolero in the original US remake with Yul Brenner, Steve Mc Queen and almost every other young bad ass, including Charles Bronson, in Hollywood at the time.

This was before I married Shanghai. Get it BEFORE, ISA BEFORE.

In the novelization of Return of the Jedi, Jabba the Hutt tells Luke

The book can be read online

“Men, we led those dumb bugs out to the middle of nowhere to keep 'em from gettin' their filthy claws on Earth. But, we stumbled onto somethin' they're so hot for, that they're scramblin' over each other to get it. Well, I don't care if it's God's own anti-son-of-a-bitch machine, or a giant hula hoop, we're not gonna let 'em have it! What we will let 'em have is a belly full of lead, and a pool of their own blood to drown in! Am I right, Marines?” - Sgt. Maj. AJ Johnson, Halo: Combat Evolved, Legendary difficulty intro
“For a brick, he flew pretty good!” Sgt. Major A.J. Johnson, Halo 2

Personally, my favorite quote from that movie is
"Isn't that just like a wop, he brings a knife to a gun fight."
