Not my monkey, not my circus...

Post by Nik_SpeakerToCats »

Last Friday, a couple of days after new c/h boiler installation, I was told to expect urgent service visit between 1700~~2200 to check install okay.

Okay, short notice but, by ~2300, apparent that no-one was coming...

Yesterday, Monday, sad call from contract provider: Apologies, Friday's guy had gone to wrong address, there'd be some-one coming Tuesday. Today.

So, today, ~0830, knock at door.

This guy, an 'Ultimate Professional', studies the situation and tells me the install is covered by new c/h boiler's multi-year warranty, issued by maker 'Navien'. If he but touched it without maker's authorisation, it would void said warranty.

After nimble dance around kitchen, watched by bemused cats, he managed to get just enough cell-signal to call his office. Who routed him through several auto-menus and puzzled departments to some-one who might know WTF was going on.

'Might' being applicable term...

Their data systems were 'down', of course --'Dire Lord Murphy' having his little joke-- but manager had the wit to explain that my plumbing and radiators would remain on my service contract, now significantly reduced in price, while the multi-year 'Navien' warranty would cover boiler 'until'.

I'd have to contact the new c/h boiler's installers, the service-contract's sub-contractors, to untangle the mess. But, whatever, the system still had to be inspected / serviced within a year of its installation lest cover lapse...

This is the sorta situation that my beloved wife thrived upon. She'd deploy her 'Wrath of Kath', resolve the tangle, probably get a nice discount...
Me, I'll just send some polite, but puzzled e-mails, hope for informed reply...

Up-side, I'm warm, and our two usually warier but breakfast-demanding cats impressed the sox off today's guy...

The installer --the sub-contractor-- were horrified: Did contractor not know that any gas-safety registered guy was allowed to service / inspect said boiler without affecting warranty ??

As 'Chat', I did not notice giggles, face-palms, heads-banged-on desk and/or belly-laughs, but they assure me they will 'Escalate' my query.

I did mention the contract department's systems were 'down'...

( This allows for some 'face-saving' by perps who may plausibly 'Blame the Computer'...)

As I said to sub-contractor, situation is sit-com sorta-funny were it not 'Real Life'...

O'Toole's Commentary on Murphy's Laws, Murphy was an optimist.
