Yesterday I dropped the car off for its service (£301 incl VAT if anyone’s interested, all fluids & filters, 100-point check which found an exhaust blow that will need some attention). I use an independent specialists, they’re very reasonable indeed and give excellent customer service.
So imagine my surprise when I walked out to the car and found this!

It had happened during Monday, when the car was parked outside the house. Typically the cameras have picked nothing up.
Repair bill is steep- a complete new front bumper. Half of what I was expecting, but we’ll be eating spam for a while

Why isn’t insurance covering this if it was collision damage?
Because it looks like it happened whilst my car was parked down the street, not outside the house; whoever did it didn’t leave their details. Now having to ask neighbours for doorbell camera footage. So right now it isn’t going through the insurance as I have no-one to claim against.

Over here we have uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage as an option, which anyone sensible takes if they can afford it. That means for things like this, we'd get it covered through our own insurance, after the deductible of course. Depending on the amount of damage and the size of the deductible, of course.
Still worth pursuing the neighbors cameras, so that as a minimum our insurance can go after their insurance for repayment.
Remember when bumpers were specifically designed to protect against these kinds of damage?

Oh, my insurance certainly will cover me if I make a claim. However, TANSTAAFL and all. If I claim against no-one, I have to pay my full excess (deductible) and my insurance bill will go up by a hefty amount next year. For this damage it’s likely cheaper to just fix it myself, which is why I am.
However, there is a neighbour with a camera positioned just right, so fingers crossed it picked something up.

Good luck with getting camera footage.
From what I understand MV insurance in the old dart can be pricey, so the excess I suspect will be hefty even with no-claim bonuses.
If that is the Panamera then replacement parts will be quite pricey.
Bummer!

Job fully quoted now and I’m taking the car to the paint shop today to get a colour match organised. The cost of painting the new bumper nearly doubles the parts price of the bumper…!
