So I have been making some preparations for his hopefully soon to be return to home. My parents had two double seat couches in front of the TV. They’re not optimal for him in his current state though so I moved one into another room and went out and got a electrically operated reclining chair with a fold out foot rest at Black Friday prices (convenient timing in that sense.) I think it’ll be better for him, more comfortable and better support. Since it’s his birthday on Wednesday it can also double as a birthday gift.

(And yes, that’s my old cradle right behind it. And my high school graduation photo on the side table. Mothers…)

Nice setup, reminds me of my Grandad's chair in his retirement days.

Sweden has black Friday?

He definitely looks ready to bust out of there.
Yeah he’s wanting to get out of there real bad.
Positive motivation, great.

Yeah the retail sector nicked the concept from the US years ago.

Haha, it’s not the worst thing in the world. It is a bit odd as we don’t have the Thanksgiving holiday, so Black Friday is just there on its own.

Yes but without Halloween, how do the stores know when to put the Christmas music on infinite repeat? Without Thanksgiving, do they know it's time to start selling out the Christmas stuff and get the Valetine's Day merch on the shelves?

Around here, the Halloween stuff goes out right after Labor Day at the 1st Monday in September. Including the Halloween candy.

We nicked the American style Halloween stuff as well. It started in the early 90’s (I think it was) when a costume store in Stockholm (Buttericks) decided to try and capitalize on what they’d seen on American TV shows. It caught on and spread to the rest of the retail sector. Initially there was a lot of controversy since the Swedish All Hallows Eve traditionally is a somber affair where you light candles on the graves of family members and such, so especially the elderly got upset.
