Complete with unofficial but very real “Sanctuary Districts” to ensure the proles stay in their places and don’t muck things up for the rich people, especially rich “liberal” Democrats.

We're headed for the Heinlein dystopia*. The rich live in walled enclaves with guarded walls, there are few upper middle class, the middle class and working poor get robbed at will, and the underclass runs the lower income areas.
Wait, we're already mostly there.
*William Gibson stole the idea, filed off the serial numbers, and claimed it as his own.

Its not just Heinlein. There's LOTS of authors out there who filed the serial numbers off and repackaged the general idea.

They see it as a problem that needs fixing.jemhouston wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 4:42 pmIt won't until it the people that don't see it as a problem, sees it as a problem that needs fixing, not pushed onto someone else.
They don’t understand that their fixes, and other policies they support and enact, are creating and exacerbating the problem.

To the best of my knowledge, Heinlein was one of the first to describe that sort of dystopia in science fiction, with many of his works from the 50's. There may have been others earlier or at the same time. From then, the idea did become commonplace.
