HOW did they keep that road or trail free of THAT much snow? At a very rough guess that looks like 30-40 feet of snow.

It was very difficult. CalTrans snowplows were having real problems keeping I-80 and US-50 open. They’re down below 50% working equipment, and had to divert substantial assets to keeping their own yard’s operational.

I've seen videos of loader mounted snow blowers where they lift it up, clear about six feet, lower it down, and just take chunks until you get to the ground. Don't know about reaching that high though.

Ideally you get through just often enough you're not dealing with the whole shebang at once.
