The Ages of HPCA

Post by MKSheppard »

First Age of HPCA (199? - 2005)

Run off of the EZBoard System. Decimated by the 31 May 2005 ezboard hack.

Second Age of HPCA (2005-2008?)

From 2005 to 2008 we slightly recovered from the EZBoard hack; but then EZBoard was bought out and was converted over to the Yuku (ewww) system and we decided to strike out on our own onto our own domain.

Third Age of HPCA(2008 to 2018)

First iteration of our own hosted site/domain at TBOVerse.us

Fourth Age of HPCA (2018 to September 2022)

Second iteration of our own hosted site/domain at TBOVerse.org -- terminated one year after Stuart's death; since the domain/forum were registered to him.

Fifth Age of HPCA (November 2022 - Present)

Third iteration of our own hosted site/domain at TBOVerse.com

I know I'm missing a lot; there may have been a iteration of HPCA even before EZBoard -- in the old NavWeaps forums...I only came into the board about mid-2002ish after a friend introduced me to it.

There were two ezboards, switchover between the two in early March 2002. For reasons people other than me are better placed to explain if they so wish.

I only started lurking in December 2000 so I don’t have a good grasp on the earliest days of the board.

The Zeroeth Age of HPCA: in the late 90s, before the HPCA board was a thing of its own, there was "The Politics of War" subforum at warships1.

IIRC HPCA was founded when some people were getting tired of conditions in the Politics of War section of the Warships1-fora (I remember that a user named Zhukov was considered particularly tedious) - this was back when those fora were still on insidetheweb.com, but I can' remember if it was before or after the interlude at elevenoclock.com.

As I recall, I started lurking either in late 2002 or early 2003. Finally got annoyed enough at some asshat in .... March ish? 2005 to join up and post.

Still not entirely certain if it was the right decision or not....

IIRC, I sorta found the Board just after it had been reamed by 'The Great EZiboard Hack'.

And, seeing a fallow field, posted a couple of my SciFi tales to polite approval...

Interesting, it did have my join date as a poster on the board there. April 7th 2001. So yesterday it was my 22nd anniversary, time flies.

When Stuart was still posting on PoW he had a guy called Tim Hanna who did the admin side for HPCA. There was some sort of explosion and Tim got booted or wandered off.

Yeah Zhukov was a pain but he wasn't the worst troll. How about GUTB?

Tim Hanna's account was the one listed as board owner for the first HPaCA ezboard - I seem to remember that on ezboard, the account that first registered a new board was forever listed as board owner, with status unassailable and non-transferrable? IIRC, after first deleting all content from the War on Terrorism subforum (saying it was accidental), he some time later wiped the entire board (all fora and all posts) and booted the other admins, resulting in a move to a new ezboard (I wonder if the first deletion of the War on Terrorism subforum caused the other admins to create a back-up board to have it ready just in case things imploded).

I apparently registered an ezboard-account February 11th 2001, and it must have been to become a member of HPaCA.
