Re: North Korean DDG launch
What the ever loving F&#K did they do to make the ship rotate in two dimensions during the launch? Forget to remove the stops in the middle or something? I've seen videos of a bunch of sideways launches because I like to see the idiots watching from the opposite shore get chased away by the wav...

....And you know, only now has it occurred to me that Oscar Meyer/Kraft should have shoveled out as much money as it took to get Clarkson, Hammond, and May to call the race.
Woulda been EPIC.

IIRC, much bigger than that, and you'd ...

Although I would like to see the kind of missile a F-14 could lug in the tunnel in place of the four Aim-54 Phoenix. Probably more size limited than weight limited. Also, range when released after a 45 degree afterburner zoom climb. ....When I get home I'm going to look up the stats for SKYBOLT. :e...

Thanks for posting that! Always had a distinct affection for the Wirraway and the Boomerang - both still well remembered in Australia, but unjustly forgotten elsewhere.M.Becker wrote: ↑Fri May 09, 2025 9:18 pm I just leave that here for no particular reason.

AIM-174 to be named....
"Gunslinger".
I like it. A year or so back, the Powers That Be wouldn't have even given it a name, lest we offend one of the nations we would be shooting it at.

Amen. Gotta wonder though, I remember reading on here some silos were set up carefully so they would be shielded by geography from attack while allowing launch against the USSR, and some of those missiles couldn't be repurposed for other targets. If they intend to have a more generally useful force...

Just remember that Sea Slug had a secondary anti surface mode (MICAWBER); the RN reckoned that 3-4 salvoes (6-8 missiles) would be enough to take down a SVERDLOV. Pretty equivalent in size to a BROOKLYN. Also remember that the warhead on Sea Slug was 200lb (!) whilst that of Exocet was 364lb… and t...
