You've forgotten Victor and Valiant and Vulcan in the bomber calculations. Plus whatever the French had.

Re: Today I Learned.....

Not convinced the 4.5" or the AS-12s would be very effective - the 4.5" shells are exactly what Belgrano 's armour scheme was designed to protect against, and AS-12s have a penetration of 20mm coupled to a very short effective range which puts the helicopters in AA range. The RN would try...

Re: The UK simulated an attack on its own air defenses based on the first night of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

It's also incorrect to do a direct comparison since the UK is hundreds of miles from Russia. So Russian land-launched ballistic missiles could not play the same part they did in Ukraine. Only Russian aircraft, Russian aircraft-launched missiles and Russian ship-launched missiles and Russian submarin...

Just seen a truly terrible joke on the side of a pest control van.

What note sounds when a wasp hits a car windscreen?

There's also the matter of copyright to consider. It is NOT fair use to simply paste the entire text of an article without comment. It's competing with the original article's location, it's not transformative and therefore it automatically fails two of the four fair use tests and fails what is in ma...

Re: Some advice needed

No one ever deletes information. In December, a letter showed up in my mailbox. It was addressed to my father. It was from a medical imaging company and said that they had a data breach several months earlier and his information was compromised. My father died 16 years ago. They didn't need to keep...

Re: Pretty wild end to police chase in Paris

Technically it's the Place Charles de Gaulle. Also known as Etoiles due to the star in the road surface. Never driven there but I've seen it plenty of times. The latest wheeze appears to be installing a new set of bollards to greatly narrow the junctions number of lanes. Quite the difference on Stre...

Re: Pretty wild end to police chase in Paris

I thought they only went that hard in LA. There’s some stuff like that in general in some European countries. But I’ve never seen something like this where three cop cars smash into one another in this fashion. That speaks of gross incompetence on the part of the police drivers. I think those polic...

Re: NASA Eyes Plan to Get Boeing Back on Track as SpaceX Alternative

How to horsewhip the rest of the industry so they get the lead out of their ass and shift back to pushing boundaries instead of collecting checks for mid to shit? There's the question now, isn't it? It's the bane of all government procurement. From education to the DOD. I'm not sure what the answer...

Re: Left turns

My recent, 13 March, problem is with someone turning right, though bear in mind here we drive on the left. Approaching an intersection with green lights both ways an oncoming diver "decided" to turn right without giving way and t-boned me. The impact was principally on my diver's door. Th...

Honestly I've noticed driving in general never fully recovered post COVID. Hard to pin down why but newer cars were automated safety features may let people use phones even more then they used to. Also American driving standards and road safety provisions for highway design have always been general...

I think one of the silliest military post abbreviations that was avoided in recent decades was the UK naval commander post during Desert Storm. Senior Naval Officer Gulf (SNOG) was vetoed.

Re: All eight planets ‘captured in photo for first time’ – and they will be visible again this week

Back in the early 2010's, my daughter's preschool went to the local planetarium for a field trip. Being both naturally geeky and loving planetariums (you guys may have noticed this), I took the morning off work, and went with them as a chaperone, along with my wife. Being both naturally geeky and h...
