Re: Nearing a new brigade AD concept for Sweden

My understanding is that this type of BDE AD is planned for the (soon to be) three brigades that Parliament will authorize standing up tomorrow. Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has already got the sales pitch for the SHORAD system (now dubbed NOMADS - "National/Norwegian Manoeuvre Air Defence...

Re: Nearing a new brigade AD concept for Sweden

Sounds to me like a beefed-up version of the new Norwegian Brigade AD Battery, which use a combination of NASAMS 3 fitted on Humvee-based high-mobility launchers (legacy equipment purchased cheaply from the cancelled US MIM-120 project) and ex-F-16 IRIS-T missiles on tracked chassis for mobility. ht...

Re: Norwegian Armed Forces

Mobile light infantry. In RL, Finnmark Regiment was to be organized with three "jeger" (light infantry) battalions of mobile light-role infantry roaming around on ATVs (in summer)/snowmobiles (in winter) with ATGW and Stinger MANPADs to harass the Soviets/Russians if they came across the b...

Re: Canadian Armed Forces

While I'm in no way shape or form an expert on this, I suspect that the Corps 86 idea that's been mentioned might have been more than a staff exercise to be honest. Some time ago, I happened upon old official Canadian late cold war/early post-cold war-era training films on YouTube that go into the n...

Re: BCGN PETR VELIKY to be decommed....

To put it this way: I'd rather the russians use their resources on that steel penis rather than on smaller, more numerous platforms that actually pose a serious threat, like their submarine force. As for the question of personell shortages: the various fleets have been "encouraging" sailor...

Where was/is the (West) German naval ammunitions facility on the southern coast of Norway again?
Vestre Bolærne in the outer Oslofjord. Here's a bloke urbex'ing it before it was sealed up.

Re: The Last War: 354.

Very nice chapter. I hate to ruin a good story with truth, but my only nitpick is with the idiocy of the Soviets in trying to operate a nuke boat in the shallow waters of the Baltic Sea. As you can see in this map , there really isn't much room for a large submarine to manouver, let alone operate ta...
