Re: Plotting out WWIII: It's Really HARD
So if the SSBN part of the triad was effectively only good for softer-counterforce and countervalue strikes, but while also being quite survivable during a nuclear exchange, then it would almost suggest that at least some of the fleet (or at least some of the tubes on each boat) be held back to allo...

Re: The Status of His Majesty's Armed Forces....
HMG has already facilitated the invasion by mass printing of visas ;) The invasion is going well, the natives kept passive and the quislings administrate the process with gusto. Seriously more illegal immigrants arrive over the course of two years than hit the beaches of Normandy. HMG has no intent...

At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if the services are eventually forced into establishing some “enlisted academy”, 3 to 6 months of remedial education before graduates get shipped off to basic. Or perhaps right after basic.

Yes. 4.5 episodes in, and I’m once again yearning to go out and find a water chip again. Or a GECK.

Re: US ICBM Performance Characteristics c. 1975 Declassified
The MIRV laydown footprint numbers are very interesting, and given the other data here can tell us a lot about the entire flight profile, particularly where and when each RV would be released. The usual factors involved here are (I’m converting it all to m/s and km as that’s what I’m most familiar w...

That we are not allowed to set foot on, under pain of cataclysm. And being buried under a pile of rocks.

COTS surprisingly resistant to Martian radiation
Kind of reminds me of Stuart’s assertations that commercial electronics are a lot tougher to radiation exposure, and even EMPs/SREEs, than the many doom-and-gloom prophecies. In this case, NASA’s Ingenuity drone copter flying on Mars was built with straight COTS hardware, a Qualcomm MCU, standard ME...

Re: Combat Footage from CARNEY (DDG-64)...
Unfortunately, the title of the article does not seem to match its contents. The contents say that the cause for the discord is the increasing disagreements over Israel’s Gaza campaign, with the US being the most pro-Israel of them all. There may very well be multiple actual Biden Blunders involved ...

ProPublica is piling on the LCS as well now, floating up the issues up to the mainstream’s ever-fickle attention.

Re: Is this in space elevator territory?
The $/kg to Geosynchronous Orbit of a fully-reusable Starship Super-Heavy and other launch vehicles of its type will be the Space Elevator’s competition to beat. If I remember the numbers correctly, Starship can lift about 25t into GTO -1800m/s, but for direct GEO you need at least two extra refuell...

Re: Copies of most of the stories in this forum.
If we can just bring back the original threads that would save me a LOT of work. Reposting all of this would take a LONG time. Does the admin have the ability to do that? Of the ones that will be posted, would it perhaps be easier to just post them as attachments (stored locally on the server)? The...

Re: Invading Russia
I think it’s worth remembering that ultimately, no matter who is in charge of Germany, if their rearmament drive even remotely targets the levels historically achieved then Germany must loot and plunder anything and everything it can get its hands on, and do so as quickly as possible. Any attempt to...

Re: SpaceX 2022 - The drive to 60
I can imagine that in order to hit 100+ launches, the Hawthorne factory will need to crank up the second stage assembly line & Vacuum Merlin-D line into overdrive. Though I’m not sure if they can slow down their first stage build rates any further without the unit costs starting to balloon way u...
