And none of them went north to Texas because the Soviets were afraid of friendly-fire incidents. They actually checked the aircraft to compare with the ex-VNAF examples the North Vietnamese gave them after Saigon fell, and found little or no differences.
The difference between diplomacy and war is this: Diplomacy is the art of telling someone to go to hell so elegantly that they pack for the trip.
War is bringing hell down on that someone.

EASTERN EXPRESS wasn't just Central Asia and the Far East: Miss Buffy and her SAC Vark partners, along with their RAF cousins, also struck targets in the European USSR, with the Chernobyl Raid being the most famous. Three D model Buffs at RAF Brize Norton in early 1987, taxiing out for takeoff. Note no external weapons carried, Which means they each have eighty Mark-82s internally loaded.

U.S.S. Iowa (BB-61) on a bombardment run off Cuba, January, 1990. This was part of the preparation for the planned invasion of Cuba set for late March, but Fidel's finally giving in to the Armistice put BUCCANEER FURY into History's "What-if" category.

We tactically acquired quite a few of those.

Drove 'em like we stole 'em, and left 'em on the side of many a road when they got tired of the abuse and broke down...
