FYI: Only the ones not actually from Finland and surrounding areas, because those guys know the area from basic and reserve training.

Sabaton over, fun concert with an excess of fire on stage as usual with them. Primo Victoria was the single most popular song it seemed. Christmas Truce works very well live!

Lordi and Babymetal were the opening acts. King Lordi is quite funny as it turns out. He claimed to not be able to speak Swedish (the band is Finnish) and is just pretending to know how to by stringing random words together. Yet he seemed to know a fair bit of suitable words and phrases which he interspersed into his English, and interestingly he pronounced them in the Sweden-Swedish way rather than the Finland-Swedish one you would expect from a Finn. So I’m thinking there might be something he’s not telling there.

Oh and he did note that Lordi was founded in Globen (the arena in Stockholm that the concert was held in). 27 years ago he attended a Kiss concert there and came across the other founding members in the crowd, and from there it went. Neat anecdote.

Babymetal was as expected, half music and half show. Very competent band which played exactly as in a studio recording, no deviations. Very Japanese.

Fun night!

Saw them yesterday in Copenhagen. Gotta agree; great show - even if somebody here might've taken offense at "Swedish pagans" becoming "Danish pagans" for this particular occasion, and one of the band members waving a Danish flag towards the end ;)

Nah, back in the era it refers to the whole distinction between Swede and Dane was pretty fuzzy anyway. ;)

Hygelac sent Beowulf to assist the Danish king with that nasty terror in the kingdom.

Geats helping their Dane broskis out right in the early times!

I’ve seen Sabaton three times so far. I’m more of a casual fan but they’re the favorite band of one of my brothers, so we go to their shows whenever they come through. Always a blast. Managed to record a pretty decent video of Gott Mit Uns at one of them a few years ago. https://youtu.be/CgsZH_-w5gY

Gonna see them in Cologne on the 12th.
Really looking forward to it. It is going to be my…seventh…eighth(?) time since first seeing them at Wacken Open Air 2008.

Babymetal as well as Lordi can go pound sand, for all I care. Babymetal because the singing gives me ear cancer and Lordi because the frontman is a greedy, egomaniacal arsehole. Five Euros for an autograph? Standoffish and arrogant at the same time? Eff off, mate!

Ah well, more time to open my body fornSabaton’s musical offerings with the help of a few beers
