The Great War Group

Earlier this year I joined the
Great War Group, as I have a long standing fascination with the First World War Group.
Back in October I had the opportunity to attend their 2022 conference in Chester. Not only were the topics discussed at the conference fascinating, I was made very welcome, made a lot of new friends and got a book signed by the author. Got the chance to meet historians like Peter Hart and Vanda Wilcox, plus heard a good argument that the Battle of the Somme actually continued on into 1917.
I was also introduced to what I think is probably the best pub in Chester -
The Albion Inn.
Next year's conference will be in Brighton. Looking forward to it already!
If anyone on the board has an interest in the First World War, I would highly recommend joining the GWG. We have members from across the globe and the group is very welcoming.

Are you a member of the Western Front Association?
I have found their lectures to be incredibly illuminating.

I'm not. I can only afford either the WFA, or the GWG. The latter appealed to me more. It is more expensive, but I think worth it.
Who knew that military historians could consume so much alcohol, or use phrases like "Batsh*t crazy" to describe some German decision making!

If I was ten years younger and a lot fitter, yes!
I have seen one on FB, as it happens.

I joined the group when it was set up off the back of the success of the History Hack podcast, never had the time or cash available to get to any of the conferences so far but I do really enjoy Salient Points falling through my letterbox.

Salient Points is excellent. The short introductory guides are also very good.
One of these days I’ll actually pop into
The Kitchener’s Arms.
