....I got this when it came out - it was probably the absolute zenith of map-and-table games, and having once been a member of the RDF, this would have been my war. The Desert Storm upgrade made it possible to very accurately refight that war - which I did while in Saudi Arabia in '95. Talk about fun - simulating a conflict with some of the people who fought it.

But after that, it went into the Box with the other games. Life didn't exactly allow for things like this, and when the great divorce fracas of of '05 happened, even the Box disappeared.

But - I am about to retire (257 days) and I will have the time, the space - and the encouragement and support - to enjoy it again.

And speaking of wargames, the nice folks at Matrix Games have let slip an upcoming mod for ground combat in COMMAND: Modern Operations called Project Hannibal.

This is gonna be fun.

I had it a long time ago and enjoyed it a lot. It eventually vanished into the ether though...

most of the bigger game cons run auctions for less played games. Keep an eye out for conventions in your area. Its a great way to pick up that game you played and cant find for budget prices. I now find that its harder to find players than copies of games.

I've always found it was harder to find players than copies of games.

Now that I'm an adult, its far harder to find a time to play when everyone can make it than it is to do just about anything else gaming related.

Looking at the map, I believe I have a completely unplayed, opened once, copy of that game in my attic. The original, Victory Games by Avalon Hill version.

I gotta get into the attic and look through my boxes of games. I know I've got a bunch of stuff that I never played, but was able to pick up for relatively cheap when AH was closing out production runs of stuff in the mid to late 80's.

On the other hand - if you're not pulling your hair out over map sections on the floor getting moved, or trying to tiptoe around a map on the floor without stepping on it.....do you REALLY game?

Still think that the 4 4x8 sheets of table terrain and regular matchbox cars makes for THE BEST car wars game ever.

Having an unused ping pong table in the basement was quite nice. Especially when I played against myself.
