I kid you not:

I have just answered door to a real, live Post Office Postie bearing parcel I was not expecting until Monday.

1900 BST on a Saturday ??

I made a polite remark about not expecting it today-- And certainly not this late !!

He shrugged, said the parcels had not come to the depot as scheduled...

Royal Mail Ltd is all about parcel delivery these days. They just don’t care about letter post!

"What gets measured, gets done..."

Such '24hr' parcels are 'tracked'.
1st Class and 'Special' post gets variously tracked.

Here, we reckon a Walk's '2nd Class' piles up until overflow or a 1st comes along and, um, 'pigs' the pipe-line.

Can take a 'working' week for a '2nd Class' hospital appt to get across the city.
IIRC, it goes out to sorting Centre near Warrington, then eventually sorta wombles back...

Saturday mid-morning...

Have just had three weeks of 'New Scientist' magazines shoved through letterbox.

And a belated 'yachty' mag. (*)
Must have needed 'King Tide' to cross harbour bar...

Hmm: Last week, the 'Fortean Times' arrived a mere week late, now the 'New Normal'...

*) Yes, yes, I still have hopes of collating my notes for 'The Lady May', yachty-based 'P for Pleistocene' sequel.
But, hip-deep in 'City of Fresno', I'm making scant progress on 'TLM' between crafting a few crucial scenes...
