A bit of re-writing history

This will be complicated to explain, but bear with me and I’ll try to summarize the most important part.
There’s a Swedish author by the name of Anders Nilsson who has written a trilogy in novel form, the last of which just came out. What makes this very interesting is that they aren’t entirely fictional but are largely based on information Nilsson has gathered through interviews by people in the know, operators of the secret world, for the past 25 years. In particular one of his main sources has been the former head of counter intelligence at the Swedish security service Tore Forsberg (died 2008). Forsberg spent considerable effort starting in 1982, after he unexpectedly got in touch with a female former operative of WWII, to try and get to the bottom with the secret history. That is to what had really happened in the past and not what was publicly claimed, by digging through the most secret of archived material and through interviewing some involved that were still alive at the time. To make a very long story slightly shorter, several things claimed in the trilogy upends the commonly accepted narrative. What is problematic is that it’s hard to be certain of the veracity of much of the information, is it what really transpired or is some - or all - of it smokescreens laid out to confuse in a distant past?
Nevertheless I think that some of the claims should be brought up, and perhaps scrutinied, in a wider format than the trilogy published in Swedish would in itself permit.
I will thus attempt to explain one of the many pieces of information contained within, and one that is of considerable importance to understanding the events of the 20th century. Some of you will have heard of the Sisson documents that came out already in 1918, and purportedly showed that Lenin and several other Russian revolutionaries had their strings pulled by Germany, and the revolution was orchestrated in order to remove Russia from World War I. These have been hotly debated since, and treated with scepticism.
Nilsson’s trilogy claims that this was in fact true. But the chain through which this information was received is long. The aforementioned Forsberg retrieved this information through his research, and the information entered Swedish hands through Helmuth ”Teddy” Ternberg, who was the deputy head of military intelligence in Sweden during World War II. Ternberg was very close to Admiral Wilhelm Canaris, head of the Abwehr in Germany, and he is said to have found documentation of this in the secret archives during his tenure, and then met with General Walter Nicolai, who had occupied the equivalent position to his during the previous war. Nicolai is said to have confirmed to Canaris that he had in fact recruited Lenin in 1917, and had then arranged for his travel into Russia and local support once there. As per the Sisson documents with the intent to get Russia to end their participation in the war, and if the above is true it was undoubtedly successful.
As mentioned above Ternberg was very close to Canaris, for several reasons. A young Canaris had once boarded at Ternberg’s Baltic-German mother’s apartment in Stockholm, where he had gotten to know Ternberg, and apparently treated him as something of a family friend. Much later when Ternberg was in the intelligence business he was sent to Germany to get training by Canaris’ Abwehr, and then frequently undertook trips to Germany where the Abwehr staff at the OKW referred to him as ”our Swedish friend”. As I noted above he and Canaris collaborated frequently during the war, with Canaris reportedly also visiting Stockholm in secret for this purpose. During one such visit he supposedly informed Ternberg of what he had found out regarding Lenin and German involvement, to put events that were transpiring then into a historical context. Interestingly Canaris is to have said that Hitler had been informed of this as well.
Is it too crazy to be true? Maybe, but then again maybe not. As far as I’m aware (but may have missed something) it does seem to be the closest we’ve gotten to getting a second source for the information contained in the Sisson documents.
