Scott Adams (Of Dilbert fame) is dying

I've been following Scott Adams (Maker of Dilbert, among other things, some of his self help books are pretty good) for years on Twitter/X, and his pancreatic cancer (correction, it's metastasized prostate cancer) is entering its last stages. I suspect he has a couple weeks left at this point. Its a bit depressing for me, I always loved Dilbert and his takes on X were fairly interesting, even if I didn't agree with them all the time.

Creative genius. He will be missed when the fight is over.
Hoping for some miracle.

Sad news. I knew he had cancer but wasn’t aware it was pancreatic. Poor guy. I always enjoyed his work.

This is truly a sadness for me.
I grew up with Dilbert and found it hilarious.
Once I got into the work force and realized how little of it was parody and how much of it was just documentation I was... disturbed.
He's always been the kind of guy who says what he thinks and didn't care what the media thought about it. We need more like him and he will be very missed.

I used to like him until around 2006 or 2008. Then he revealed that he was full bore into creationism, using the "There is no proof", "It's just a theory", and "We have to keep an open mind". He was of the Intelligent Design philosophy, and two of his non-Dilbert works were focused on it. He's questioned the death toll of the Holocaust, phrasing it as asking whether the numbers are on a sound scientific basis, even though I have no evidence that he doubts that the Holocaust happened. He made a racist rant in 2023 that caused a lot of businesses to drop him.

Wherever you have to go, just get away because there's no fixing this. You just have to escape, so that's what I did. I went to a neighborhood where, you know, I have a very low Black population.
I have no time or interest for Scott Adams, and while I'm sorry to hear that he's dying, it really doesn't matter to me.

Scott Adams died earlier today. Along with Gary Larsen, two elements of my formative years into early adulthood are gone.

Shit... Larsen AND Adams?
The world is a much dimmer, less jolly place today.
I shall be raising a glass in both their honor later this evensong. And the song shall be a lament. I'm thinking "Adaggio for strings" by Samuel Barber.

Did a vocal version of this in HS choir. To this day, it can bring tears to my eyes.

Gary Larson, of Far Side fame, is still alive and sometimes drawing. He was born in 1950.
Gary Larsen, defensive tackle for the Rams and Vikings, is also still alive, although probably not playing much football of either sort. He was a member of the Purple People Eaters. He was born in 1940.
