...Merry Christmas to one and all - we're headed to M2's in a few for dinner, and the Cadet will be here tomorrow with his Mrs.

And I intend to spend the next four days in blissful peace and quiet with the Fair Melissa.

Merry Christmas everyone! I have to admit this year I'm not feeling it, but that doesn't stop me from hoping that all of you have a wonderful christmas surrounded by the ones you love!

Same here!

Admittedly this year has mostly been an annus horribilis for me and I can’t wait for 2026.

I had typed up a long reply that just wasn't in the spirit of the season. I'll simply agree that the tail end of 2025 has been horrible and unfortunately I don't see 2026 bringing me much joy either. I hope for you at least 2026 brings a turn around!

Dad Tells Kids Santa Would Prefer Beer And Cigars Over Milk And Cookies This Year
BUFFALO, NY — Local dad Michael Cochran explained to his kids that this year, he felt confident that Santa would rather find some beer and cigars waiting at the bottom of the chimney than milk and cookies.

"Santa is a huge fan of session IPAs, trust me," said Mr. Cochran to his eldest son Sam. "Also, a good Rocky Patel cigar would probably go a long, long way with the big guy. Promise."

In addition the change in food offering, Mr. Cochran also reported that Santa has become a UFC fan and might stop in to watch a replay of the last fight. "If you hear a fight on the TV, just stay in bed and don't bother Santa," said Mr. Cochran. "Santa also brings extra presents to kids who sleep in until nine. Very, very important to Santa."

Sources report that since the conversation, a deeply frustrated Mrs. Cochran had caught the children several times attempting to sneak a six-pack of IPAs into the grocery cart. "I didn't know our three-year-old even knew those letters," said Mrs. Cochran. "Every time I look down at my grocery list, he slips a pack of Stone IPA into the cart bottom. Yesterday, our eight-year-old oldest asked a manager to unlock the cigar humidor. It's humiliating."

At publishing time, Mr. Cochran had informed the kids that Santa may need a new cigar cutter, if it wasn't too much trouble.

The idea that NORAD keeps a tracking solution on Santa also alludes that they also have a firing solution on him as well.

Our Christmas party (bunch of families get together) had a noticeably German soundtrack this time around...always gets my approval as I have always loved the central European "sound" in Christmas music.

Didn't know of Peter Alexander till now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BgNLxLQEZI

Anyway it made me get into rabbit hole a bit later with "little drummer boy"....as I have always been especially endeared to this one since I was knee high to grasshopper and in my first school nativity concert....where I was one of the three kings and the (iirc) drummer boy followed right after us as "we 3" took a breather after all attention focused on us as we presented our gifts heh. Gosh time flies...but I still remember like yesterday.

Apparently the Trapp family were majorly involved in its popularisation before Harry Simeone et al (didnt know this). Made me look up more stuff on the Trapp family (again) given my fondness with the movie too:
