USS STEWART DD-224 FOUND....

if only the money was there to bring her up, even as a static exhibit - she is the last 'intact' 4 stacker, and those ships deserve better than they have gotten in history.

I had no idea she even survived the war. I had always assumed she was sunk (again).

She was bombed and damaged enough in April 1945 that when she was transferred to Kure, she was laid up instead of used. Then she was towed to the US after recommissioning instead of sailing under her own power before the sinkex.

Anyway, it's not that spectacular a find. They knew approximately where it was, to within 37 square miles or about a 7 mile circle. Since it wasn't rocky and was fairly flat, the drones found her in hours. Of course, luck also played a part.
