CONTEXT: The Fair Melissa and I are discussing the case of a 12 year old boy who got in trouble for sending a threatening text message. It's unclear exactly what the lad intended to say, because it's written in textspeak and emojis. Aaaaaaaaand....SCENE:

The Fair Melissa: "And you can't rule out the possibility that the adults are completely misinterpreting the statement, because of the spelling and emojis - that would be like me looking at something written in Russian without being able to read it, and deciding it means, 'I'll kill you.' "

Me: "Point of Order: if it's in Russian, it probably DOES mean, 'I'll kill you.' "

The Fair Melissa: (Considers this for a moment, then gets up, comes over to me, and gives me a high five)

I would have thought that if it was written in Finnish, it would be more likely to say "I'll kill you".

Nah, those are just sideshows in the Swedish mentality, scuffle with them if there’s some reason to do so that comes up, but not really arch-enemies as such. It’s the Russians that have been the ultimate enemy of the last millenium. Still is, that ”in favor of supporting Ukraine in the war” per EU country thing that I posted is one symptom of that.
