Road trip today

We got out of the house today and made a road trip to the north of Clark AB, to Nueva Ecija (Cabanataun) to the U.S, Memorial at the site of the Japanese PoW camp there. The site is a little large but I discovered (in the visitor center) the entire memorial is enclosed ONLY within the portion of the camp used for housing the Japanese officers. The site is a bit less than 1/4 the size of the entire camp. The locals have encroached on the rest of the camp. The end of the month marks 79 years since the "Great Raid". Observing the area it's hard to believe the Americans managed to get into position without being observed even with the P-61 buzzing the camp. The area the raiders came from were rice paddies. Right now those paddies are quagmires of just planted rice. There are some concrete blocks with steel poking out but I have no idea what they may have been for. The photos are looking south, the building in the background is outside the memorial area and in the Japanese enlisted area and motor pool area.
