"It's Dead, Jim..."

{Sigh...}
The two contract service guys have just taken my kitchen's big C/H combi-boiler apart, declared it 'Dead at Scene'.
I could see they wanted to utter the Classic ST:TOS line, but were too professional. So, I said it, got wry grins, nods...
Still, grim. No equivalent, 'Plug & Play' design available. Alternatives may not fit into kitchen gap. Exhaust would have to be through gable-end rather than side-wall. Design rules have 'evolved' in the decades this beast has served, such its current position is now 'deprecated'.
Gable-end's floor-to-ceiling cupboard may have to go, the better to position new boiler and its 'balanced-flue'. Similarly, gable-end's small-ish window, which opens, so risk of fume-ingress. The big picture-window over side-wall's sink+half+drainer is 'sealed', so okay.
Worst-case, if lose tall cupboard and need gable-end window to be bricked up, I'd require sufficient 'framing' to hang a rank of wall-cupboards. Seems my only option to salvage the resulting corner gap is to re-work sink-unit 'carcase' with a 'bustle' for 180º carousel tucked into that space...
Okay, cue the 'Blue Parrot' etc jokes: If I cannot laugh at the situation, I'm damned to a 'crying jag'...
