FREMM and Constellation FFGs

Post by MKSheppard »

So I ran across this thread:

https://twitter.com/PutinIsAVirus/statu ... 1950314608
Navy day in Italy and got to get on board of this beauty. Crew got chatty and was very proud of their world class Anti Submarine perf. told of how they got to track for 3 months a Russian sub without ever losing contact for all its time in the med. Kicked it back in the Black Sea

...

They spent some time laughing at current Russian subs saying they are old crap that can't do anything against modern western hardware. Also underlined how modern AIP subs are the only threat and even US nuke subs are by now much easier to detect and acquire. Very interesting tour

...

They claimed that US decision on FFG(x) program (Italian / French FREM design) was specifically due to this ship and how US staff got on board for sea tests and was amazed about how well they could track US subs.

...

A little more details on the Russian tracking: at first Russians did everything they could to get rid of the Italian shadow but absolutely nothing worked, they gave up at some point and stopped trying. Crew claimed they could track the sub with no issues at > 120 NM from it.

That’s… interesting.

Where/ with whom has the MM been training to get so good at ASW? I understood that the refugee crisis had been sucking up their operating budget for years.

Could also be a crew proud of their ship and boasting to civilian visitors!
