Extraction 2

Post by Jotun »

Three or so days ago, (Tyler Rake - ) Extraction 2 went live on Netflix.

And what can I say? It is another old-fasioned, brutal and well-shot action-fest that doesn‘t really fit into Netflix‘s usual woke bullshit fare. Maybe the people holding the purse strings are finally realizing that movies catering to "modern audiences" are very likely to crash and burn? A man can hope, no?
Chris Hemsworth is back for the sequel and it is obvious he relishes being a hard as nails action hero who has not by Disney‘s obiter dictum become the butt of misandric jokes and is not being talked down to by his female sidekick Nik, played by Persian Golshifteh Farahani who is drop-dead gorgeous and her character at the same time competent without being overbearing, a loyal and steadfast friend to the leading man.

In this installment, Rake (ex-SASR), who barely survived part 1, is hired to extract his ex-sister-in-law and her two children from a Georgian (the one on the Black Sea) prison where she is sharing a cell with her abusive crime boss husband for safety reasons. The extraction itself is a twenty-minute take with awesome camera direction and nearly imperceptible cuts even in the midst of perfect action.
Of course the extraction goes sideways, and Rake and his ex-SIL kill her husband, which prompts his brother to mount a revenge campaign that culminates in a drawn-out shootout and CQB sequence in a Vienna high-rise. My only quibble with that one is that except for one police sniper, the Cobra SWAT unit is mere cannon fodder…

The end is satisfying in that Rake and Nik are recruited by the same shadowy gubbermint figure (Idris Elba) who hired Rake in the betinning of the movie.

Five out of five headshots, looking forward to part 3, which is already in the pipeline.

PS: The Drinker loves it.
